Täschwang Gallery
View of the Täschwang avalanche gallery in the Mattertal valley between Täsch and Zermatt. The steep incline in the avalanche protection gallery just before the Kalter Boden passing loop above the Mattervispa is clearly visible.
The Brig–Visp–Zermatt railway line did not become fully operational until 1891. Today, the regional trains of the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway run here, and the Glacier Express also travels along this route. The section between Täsch and Zermatt is particularly prone to avalanches and rockfalls.
I walked quite a lot along this railway line through the Mattertal valley to find suitable vantage points. I am particularly fond of this view – it really brings home just how difficult the construction of this railway line must have been.
