Pustertalbahn
A regional train runs right through the middle of Franzensfeste, which consists of three forts. The fortress was built between 1833 and 1838 and is considered the largest historical building in South Tyrol and is now a museum.
The Pustertal Railway was opened in 1871 and the line branches off from the Brenner Railway at Franzensfeste station and runs through the Pustertal Valley to Innichen on the Italian/Austrian border. After the First World War, the railroad became part of Italy.
There is only one viewpoint that I could find where you can clearly see how the railroad line runs through the fortress. Just behind the fortress there is a second good view of the railroad with the bridge over the Eisack.
