The Three Sisters II
The Three Sisters are a striking rock formation consisting of three slender sandstone spires rising close together in Monument Valley. The name is thought to have been given by Western settlers and traders. What makes more sense to me is the Navajo name for the three rocks: they see them more as a family spanning generations, consisting of a grandmother, a mother and a daughter.
I therefore wanted to photograph three different views of the rocks. The rocks stand as timeless guardians in a landscape that, for the indigenous people, is not merely a natural spectacle but the living foundation of their creation story.
