Col de l’Iseran
Graian Alps, France
The Iseran Pass is the highest mountain pass in the Alps. For me, the southern ramp is one of the most charming landscapes of the Alpine passes. The road was completed in 1937 and is part of the Route des Grand Alpes.
The photograph was taken one evening after a heavy downpour. I was hoping that the rain would stop or subside towards the evening and indeed, as I walked along the road on my way back, the cloud cover suddenly opened up to reveal this view of the pass and the Lenta torrent.
For me, this weather and this light is the most suitable to do justice to the character of this mighty landscape. Knowing that I had taken a successful photograph, I returned completely soaked but very satisfied.
It has become one of my absolute favourite photographs of the two series.
